G2 Esports will play in the quarterfinals of the PGL Copenhagen Major, after defeating Virtus.pro 2-1 in the deciding match to advance.
The match between G2 and Virtus started on Overpass, one of the Russian team's favorite maps and one that G2 only recently started playing. Despite that, G2 managed very well, they were the first to reach the map points, but Virtus.pro managed to win overtimes and in them they won 16-14.
The duel continued on Inferno, where Virtus managed to take 7 rounds on the CT side, they maintained the advantage in the continuation, and just when they were within reach of victory after an excellent placement of the bomb at 11-11, team captain Dzhami "Jame" Ali se disconnected and died during that time, which G2 used to raid the site, kill the remaining players and dismantle the bomb.
G2 cruised to a 13-11 victory in the next round to even the score at 1-1, and Virtus.pro then looked completely demoralized at the start of the decisive Anubis map.
G2 took advantage of the ensuing turnaround to take an 8-0 lead at the start of Anubis, but Virtus managed to take the remaining four rounds of the first half and put themselves in a position to have at least some hope going forward. However, they couldn't completely turn it around, G2 took the second pistol round and continued to play well, primarily Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov who finished the map with 25 frags and a 2.06 rating.
The map went on for seven more rounds and G2 cruised to a 13-6 victory that earned them a precious berth in the quarterfinals.
