G2 Esports failed to advance to the semi-finals of BLAST Premier World Final 2023 after they were defeated 2-1 by Natus Vincere in the last quarter-final encounter.
More was expected from G2, who showed a great game yesterday against the FaZe team and entered today's match as the favorite, but in the end, they still failed to make it past the quarterfinals and Na'Vi deservedly won this time.
G2 took a 16-13 lead with an overtime win on Anubis, Na'Vi's pick, and at the time it looked like they were in a very good position to secure a spot in the semifinals after Inferno. The key moment of the map happened very early in the sixth round when Na'Vi was leading 5-0 and Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov got a 1v5 clutch and completely brought G2 back into the game.
Although Na'Vi went 12-9 and had three chances to take a 1-0 lead, G2 played very well in the end of the first map, a map where they really narrowly missed beating FaZe the day before and securing a direct top 4 berth.
An expected win on Inferno, traditionally G2's best map, they took a 5-1 lead, but Na'Vi managed to cut the deficit to 5-7 at halftime. G2 completely fails on the CT side down the stretch and Na'Vi reverses for a big 13-11 win and tie.
That disaster was on the horizon for G2 was clear when they only took five rounds on Nuke on the CT side. Mihai "iM" Ivan was unstoppable throughout the map with 24 frags, 116.5 damage per round and a 2.01 rating, and once again completely failed m0NESY with only eight frags, while Nikola "NiKo" Kovač also had a weak map with 10 frags.
In the second part of the game, Na'Vi takes six out of seven rounds and puts an end to the match with a score of 13-6.
Na'Vi will play against Vitality tomorrow from 16:00 for a place in the grand final, while FaZe Clan and MOUZ will meet earlier from 12:30.
