G2 Esports is in the semi-finals of IEM Sydney

G2 managed to defeat ENCE 2-0 in the final match of Group B and secure the first place which earned them a direct top 4 placement in the IEM Sydney tournament.

At the start of the match, the teams chose their best maps, G2 Ancient and ENCE Vertigo, so that Mirage remained as a potential deciding map that we didn't even get to this time.

On the shift, Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov and Nikola "NiKo" Kovač were fired up when it was most needed and allowed their team a longer rest and more preparation for the playoffs. Ancient opened the match and saw G2 take a 7-5 halftime lead, but ENCE used a pistol round victory in the follow-up to quickly tie things up.

G2 managed to break away after 8-8 and with three tied rounds came very close to victory. In the sequel, they conceded only one run to the opponent and took the lead in the series with 13-9.

On Vertigo it was ENCE who opened the match better as expected, they were now 7-5 at halftime, but G2 completely demolished them in the rest of the game taking eight out of nine rounds on the T side giving them a 13-8 map triumph opponent and a big 2-0 victory.

In the last match of Group B, Complexity and Monte fought for the final playoff slot, it went to the American team, which won on both maps (Overpass and Ancient) after overtime with an identical 16-13 score.

Monte and BetBoom Team will play a CIS derby in the quarter-finals on Friday at 10:30, the winner of that match will be rival G2 in the semi-finals. While ENCE and FaZe Clan will meet a little earlier from 7:30 a.m. in the derby of the quarterfinals, which will cross paths with the MOUZ team in the fight to go to the grand final.
